Recall Newsletter

Recall is the society's newsletter, currently published about four times a year. The aim is to include results of matches, Members' Annual Competitions in obedience, agility and working trials, reports on open shows and trials, news relating to the society and members and their dogs, and articles of general interest to dog owners.

The earliest copy of Recall which still survives is for October 1979, when the leading article refers to it as a monthly publication. In those early days it was a single typed  sheet, sometimes even extending to both sides! 

It appears that early issues were not numbered, issue 1 appearing in January 1982. The numbering then became discrepant, but has remained consistent since issue 12 published in January 1984. Issues 39 to 49 were undated, with issue 50 appearing in February 1992. 

It is interesting, looking back through old copies, to plot the progress from manual to electric typewriter, then word processor, then computer with the first use of computer generated graphics in issue 39 (undated, but after April 1988), then cut and paste techniques, to the increasingly sophisticated desk top publishing software used since issue 69, the Christmas 1994 edition.

The current Editor is Heather Moore, who has been in the post since October 1985, with a year off to concentrate on professional exams in the early 1990s. She is always happy to receive articles and original material for inclusion, in whatever format is convenient to the writer (yes, we do acknowledge that not everybody uses a computer or typewriter). Recall has been published and printed by Alan Bowles since Christmas 1992.

The purpose of this web site is not to duplicate the functions of Recall, but rather compliment them, and also to provide a convenient source of archival material.

From time to time articles are published in Recall that are not constrained by topicality, and are worthy of a wider audience. These will be indexed and added as time permits to the Archived Articles section.
