In common with most other Dog Training Societies our Obedience Section was started to satisfy the needs of our members who wished to take part in Competitive Obedience Since the Society began in 1967, we have always encouraged our members to enter Obedience Competitions The section has nine instructors who are conversant with most training methods. They regularly attend courses to increase their knowledge and have the ability to teach domestic control through to Championship Test C, the highest Kennel Club Obedience Competition. Currently our Wednesday evening training is divided into four sessions, these being Starters (8 week courses), Domestic, Advanced and Competition We are also members of the Chiltern Junior Obedience League; this gives our members the opportunity to practice their obedience prowess with regular matches against other clubs up to Novice standard. We have recently won this league for five consecutive years. Our training also includes the exercises required to obtain Kennel Club Good Citizen certificates. Most of the dogs currently working at the Society have achieved certificates at Bronze level and several have gone on to achieve Silver and Gold levels. We organise these tests at least once a year. The Society also organises an Open Obedience Show in May each year. |
