Agility Section

The agility section was formed by a small band of enthusiasts during 1991 and grew rapidly, attracting members who would not otherwise have become involved with the Society.  It wasn't long before Aylesbury members were beginning to compete at agility shows around the country, and starting to make a name for themselves.

In the early days training was held on Sunday mornings on the outskirts of Aylesbury, and all the equipment was built by members to current Kennel Club specifications. The enthusiasm for agility at Aylesbury reflected its growing nationwide popularity, becoming the huge sport it is today.

Two of the founding members had previously attended other agility clubs, but with no experience of instructing agility were sent on agility instructors courses to develop these skills. Today the section has seven instructors and approaching sixty members.

Training sessions take place in a covered arena a few miles south of Aylesbury on Thursday evenings. The evening is divided into six separate classes depending on ability and handler experience. Basic 10 week starter courses are held from time to time throughout the year, catering for those new to the discipline or bringing on new dogs. All training and instructing is carried out to Kennel Club regulations. Midweek training leaves weekends free to allow members to travel to agility competitions.

Those interested in joining the society for agility training should in the first instance contact the section representative, or call in for a chat at our main Wednesday evening training session at Jubilee Hall, Bierton (map and directions) where agility instructors are usually present.

The Society staged it's first limited Agility Show in August 2000. In 2002 the show went open for the first time, and in 2005 developed to a two day show. It takes place on the first weekend in August, and is now an established feature of the annual agility diary.

Copies of the schedule and entry form for the next show may be downloaded when available and printed out from the link above.
