Agility

Our Agility Section is very active and popular, with training taking place at an indoor venue at Little Kimble, near Aylesbury, on Thursday evenings.

The agility section was formed by a small band of enthusiasts during 1991 and grew rapidly, attracting members who would not otherwise have become involved with the Society.

Basic 10 week Starter Courses are held from time to time throughout the year, catering for those new to the discipline or bringing on new dogs. These are followed by improver courses, intermediate and competitive classes. Agility is an extremely popular activity and whilst many of our members do agility for fun (and fitness) we have several members who compete with their dogs most weekends during the summer. Members’ dogs have been very successful over the years, competing at Olympia, Discover Dogs and Crufts as well as numerous other prestigious events.

Because it is a strenuous activity, both dogs and handlers need to be fit enough to take part. As much of the training is carried out off–lead, a good level of general control is essential. For this reason, our agility training environment is not suitable for dogs with significant behavioural problems. Safety is our first consideration and dogs and handlers will be assessed to ensure that they are fit to take part. We may encourage potential new members to complete some basic obedience training before starting agility training.

Those interested in joining the society for agility training should contact the section representative in the first instance, or call in for a chat at our main Wednesday evening training session at Jubilee Hall, Bierton (map) where agility instructors are usually present. We would very much like to meet you and your dog, and have to ask that you bring your dog’s vaccination certificate on your first visit so that we can check the dog is fully protected before mixing with other dogs at the club.

For several years we ran a large and highly successful weekend agility show and hope to do so again in the future.
